Kinbaku Workshops

Group lessons are back! We are beyond excited to announce that we are reopening Kinbaku workshops.

Barkas and Addie are teaching an all-levels Kinbaku workshop with additional space for open practice.

After an exciting first workshop on July 3rd, we will continue to organize Kinbaku workshops. Please sign up for our newsletter and follow us on instagram @thespace2vancouver to get the news on when and where the next workshops take place.

Kinbaku Workshop II

In this second workshop on Sunday, September 11 we will look at technique of frictions, rope/body handling, and patterns for beginners and intermediate/advanced participants. After a joint intro and review of some of the fundamental techniques we will split the class into two groups.

  • The first group will learn how to apply ropes on each other in a safe, sound, and fun way. We will look at few different elements and microtechniques, as well as options for application and play. The goal is to be able to play with these elements as-is, or use them as foundation pieces for further development in future.
  • The second group builds on already known ties such as a Take Kote or a Hojo Hishi (and others), and learns about furthering possibilities as well as some of the subtle intricacies of applying patterns without becoming fixated on step-by-step. We will focus on understanding technical details as well as application methods so that familiar ties do not become predictable and dull.

The workshop then fades into an open rope session where participants are encouraged to practice, socialize, or simply have a good time around rope and people.

Prerequisites:

Participants with little to no rope experience will attend group 1 and participants who feel confident tying an upper body tie with 2+ ropes will be in group 2.
